The curtains came down on the Grenada Football Association\u2019s (GFA) Summer of Soccer programme with over 500 children in attendance on Saturday August\u00a0 27 at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. The children came from the 12 centres on the mainland after enjoying six weeks of football since the programme started on July 11.<\/p>\n
The day was filled with fun for the hundreds of boys and girls of different age groups who were\u00a0 engaged in friendly competition and a show of skills. Parents were also out in their numbers as\u00a0 their children enjoyed football and made new friends.<\/p>\n
Programme Director for Summer of Soccer Lester Smith said,\u201cThe programme met its objectives.\u00a0 We had over 1000 children registered and coming out to play and enjoy football. We are happy\u00a0 to have planted the seeds which will bear fruit in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
President of the GFA Marlon Glean said, \u201cThe Association is happy to have invested in this\u00a0 programme which kept the nation\u2019s children positively engaged during the Summer holidays. We\u00a0 are also laying the foundation for revolutionizing football in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite\u00a0 Martinique.\u201d<\/p>\n
The GFA expresses sincere appreciation to the Government of Grenada through the Ministry of\u00a0 Sports for its support and sponsors the Grenada Bottling Company, George F. Huggins, Hubbard\u2019s and the Ministry of Agriculture for supporting the Summer of Soccer programme and the\u00a0 development of football.<\/p>\n
Summer of Soccer is a free programme which targeted boys and girls, ages 6-16, providing the\u00a0 opportunity for them to learn to play and enjoy the game of football.
