PR \u2013 Preliminary results of the May\/June 2022 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Caribbean\u00a0 Secondary Education Certificate Examinations (CSEC) have been received in Grenada. A total of\u00a0 2,471\u00a0<\/b>candidates were registered to write\u00a0CXC (CSEC) examinations<\/b>, of which\u00a0one thousand\u00a0 five hundred sixty-nine (1,569)\u00a0<\/b>were female and\u00a0nine hundred and two (902)\u00a0<\/b>were males.\u00a0Two\u00a0 thousand, three hundred and twenty-five (2,325)\u00a0<\/b>were candidates attending school, while\u00a0one\u00a0 hundred and forty-six (146)\u00a0<\/b>were private candidates.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

There were\u00a012,232\u00a0<\/b>subject entries in thirty-three (33) subject areas. Twenty-three (23) secondary\u00a0 schools, and twenty-nine (29) private centres participated in the examination. The\u00a0largest entries\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>were in\u00a0Mathematics (1,655), English A (1,580), Social Studies (697), Principles of Business\u00a0 (676) and Information Technology (554).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0lowest entries\u00a0<\/b>were in\u00a0Music (1), Industrial Technology Mechanical (8), Theatre Arts\u00a0 (32),\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Religious Education (33), Additional Mathematics (53).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Overall, there were\u00a01,615 Grade ones<\/b>,\u00a03,023 Grade twos<\/b>,\u00a03,440 Grade threes<\/b>,\u00a02,293 Grade\u00a0 fours<\/b>,\u00a0801 Grade fives<\/b>,\u00a011 Grade sixes\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a01,049 ungraded, absent or deferred<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The percentage pass rate (Grades I-III) in the examination was\u00a076.3%,\u00a0<\/b>an increase of\u00a04.6%\u00a0<\/b>compared with\u00a071.7%\u00a0<\/b>in 2021. In 2020 the pass rate was\u00a077.3%.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0subjects with the highest percentage pass\u00a0<\/b>were Theatre Arts\u00a0(100%),\u00a0<\/b>Physical Education\u00a0 and Sport\u00a0(97.76%),\u00a0<\/b>Industrial Technology Building\u00a0(95.54%),\u00a0<\/b>Agricultural Science SA\u00a0\u00a0(94.96%),\u00a0<\/b>Industrial Technology Electrical\u00a0(94.80%),\u00a0<\/b>Food, Nutrition and Health\u00a0(94.37%),\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Family and Resource Management\u00a0(92.71%),\u00a0<\/b>and Principles of Business\u00a0(91.58%).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0subjects with the lowest percentage pass\u00a0<\/b>were, Religious Education\u00a0(32.26%),\u00a0<\/b>Mathematics\u00a0(33.44%),\u00a0<\/b>French\u00a0(39.66%),\u00a0<\/b>Spanish\u00a0(53.33%),\u00a0<\/b>and Chemistry\u00a0(59.93).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Performance in Mathematics declined by 1.54%, from\u00a034.98%\u00a0<\/b>in 2021 to\u00a033.44%\u00a0<\/b>in 2022. The\u00a0 percentage pass was\u00a043.56%\u00a0<\/b>in 2020. Performance in English A, declined by\u00a02.14%\u00a0<\/b>from\u00a071.71%\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>in 2021 to\u00a069.57%\u00a0<\/b>in 2022.\u00a0<\/b>The percentage pass in 2020 was\u00a082.65%.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The performance of students in both English A and Mathematics are below the regional\u00a0 performance.<\/p>\n

Two students achieved 13 grade ones, two students obtained 12 grade ones, three students achieved\u00a0 11 grade ones, and four students attained 10 grade ones in the examination.<\/p>\n

Performances in two of the pure sciences increased marginally in 2022. Performance in Biology and Physics increased by 1.55% and 0.4%, respectively. Chemistry decreased by 10.61%. Table 3\u00a0 shows a comparison of the percentage pass rate in these areas for 2020, 2021 and 2022 against the\u00a0 region\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

Grenada\u2019s performance continues to be better than the regional performance in all of the Pure\u00a0 Sciences.<\/p>\n

NB: The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture has not yet received the preliminary\u00a0 slips for individual candidates from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). Therefore,\u00a0 candidates will have to collect individual slips in the next week or two when they are received\u00a0 from the council. Candidates can continue to access their results electronically via the CXC\u00a0 Student Portal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
