\nSports & Culture, Hon. Ron Redhead has congratulated Lindon Victor on his dominance in the men\u2019s decathlon at the Decastar, in Talence, France.<\/p>\n
Victor, who is also the Commonwealth champion, broke his Grenadian record, scoring
\n8550 points to win the decathlon at the Decastar meeting in Talence on Sunday, winning the overall men\u2019s title in the World Athletics Combined Events Tour.<\/p>\n

Hailing the decathlete\u2019s victory, Minister Ron Redhead said Grenada is \u201celated by
\nLindon\u2019s wonderful performance\u201d, and added that every Grenadian will continue to feel
\nproud of him.<\/p>\n
Victor contested his fourth decathlon of the year, having finished second in G\u00f6tzis and
\nfifth at the World Championships before his triumph at the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
Still, he showed little fatigue in Talence at this late season stage.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old opened his campaign with a wind-assisted 10.61 in the 100m, finishing
\nsecond to Germany\u2019s Manuel Eitel with 10.44.<\/p>\n
In the shot put, Victor launched ahead thanks to a 15.75m throw, almost a meter farther than any of his rivals.<\/p>\n
Victor ended day one with a win in his 400m heat, clocking a PB of 48.20 for the day\u2019s
\nthird-quickest time behind Germany\u2019s Malik Diakite (47.74) and Gaio (48.19), giving him
\nan overnight score of 4438 and a 128-point lead over Gaio.<\/p>\n
Victor\u2019s strong series continued Sunday, starting with a 14.70 run in the 110m hurdles,
\njust a few hundredths shy of his season\u2019s best.<\/p>\n
But Victor responded in the next event, throwing 51.00m \u2013day\u2019s best mark \u2013 in the discus to regain the lead.<\/p>\n
He equalled his 4.80m season\u2019s best in the pole vault and followed it with a 66.01m throw in the javelin, another intense event for the Grenadian, giving him a lead of almost 400 points going into the final event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
