Each year on 14 October, International, Regional and National Standards Organisations celebrate World Standards Day. The day is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative\u00a0 efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements and\u00a0 minimum requirements that are published as Standards.<\/p>\n
Grenada joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Standards Day to thank and pay tribute\u00a0 to all Grenadians involved in Standards development. In Grenada, there are over one hundred\u00a0 volunteers from the government, private sector and consumer organisations who collectively\u00a0 serve on international, regional and national technical committees to develop standards.<\/p>\n
Standards Development is a time-consuming and consensus building effort. Therefore, it is\u00a0 fitting to pay tribute to the many standards volunteers worldwide who give of their time and\u00a0 technical expertise freely. Standards are one of the main pillars of any quality infrastructure\u00a0 system that drive trade and economic development. Standards volunteers are a critical link to\u00a0 the nation building process.<\/p>\n
The theme for this year\u2019s World Standards Day celebration is\u00a0our shared vision for a\u00a0 better world.\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which project to address social imbalances,\u00a0 develop a sustainable economy, and slow the rate of climate change, are highly ambitious. To\u00a0 reach them will require the cooperation of many public and private partners, and the use of all\u00a0 available tools, including international standards and conformity assessment.<\/p>\n
The intense battle against a persistent global pandemic revealed the absolute necessity of\u00a0 addressing the SDGs in an inclusive way, to strengthen our societies, making them more\u00a0 resilient and more equitable. Today, we are asking you to join us on a mission that affirms the\u00a0 importance of the SDGs to build back better. In this pursuit, standards are more relevant than\u00a0 ever.<\/p>\n
The entire standards system is built on collaboration. It is testament to the power of cooperation\u00a0 and the belief that we are stronger than the sum of our parts. By working together, we are\u00a0 empowering people with real-world solutions to face sustainability challenges head-on.<\/p>\n
It is in this spirit that we are engaging in a multi-year World Standards Day journey that\u00a0 showcases the many ways in which international standards contribute to the success of\u00a0 the SDGs.<\/p>\n
