The Grenada Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce\u00a0 that English-born Grenadian, Cameron Jerome has agreed to represent Grenada in international\u00a0 football. Grenada FA President Marlon Glean met with the former Norwich City and Birmingham\u00a0 City forward in London in September where he committed to establishing ties with Grenada\u2019s\u00a0 football.<\/p>\n
Jerome was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire to Grenadian parents. He signed his first\u00a0 professional contract with Cardiff City in the summer of 2004 and proved his competence by\u00a0 scoring 20 goals in the 2005-2006 season. This did not go unnoticed as he was then signed by\u00a0 Premier League outfit, Birmingham City for a fee of \u00a33 million. After spending five years at St. Andrew\u2019s, Jerome then moved to Stoke City in August 2011 for a reported fee of around \u00a34\u00a0 million.<\/p>\n
A change in management at Stoke City saw Jerome being loaned out to Crystal Palace and\u00a0 subsequently transferred to Norwich City on a permanent move where he made 138\u00a0 appearances, helping them to regain their Premier League status. One of his memorable\u00a0 contributions is scoring the opening goal against Middlesbrough at Wembley in the\u00a0 Championship play-off final. He is currently with Luton Town in the English Championship\u00a0 Division, who were last season play-off semi-finalists.<\/p>\n
Jerome who is excited to represent Grenada commented, \u201cI met with the President of the\u00a0 Grenada FA, Marlon Glean in September and I was satisfied with the things that I heard about his\u00a0 vision and plans for football in Grenada. I have close ties to Grenada and I\u2019d be delighted to help\u00a0 out in any way possible. I\u2019m still fit, playing and enjoying my football and once I\u2019m able to make\u00a0 a valuable contribution, then, of course, I\u2019m willing to be a part of it,\u201d Jerome said.<\/p>\n
GFA President Glean was equally excited about Cameron potentially lining up for the Spice Boys.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had the discussion with Cameron about him finally coming on board in an official capacity.\u00a0 We believe he will be a great asset to our country with all his years of experience playing at the\u00a0 top level of English football.
