The Grenada Football Association (GFA) is providing the\u00a0 opportunity for the nation\u2019s goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches to get training from premier\u00a0 goalkeeper instructor, Phil Wheddon. Mr. Wheddon has been invited to conduct a number of\u00a0 coaching sessions from November 11-15 in Grenada.<\/p>\n
Wheddon brings a wealth of experience at the youth, collegiate, professional and international\u00a0 levels to everything he does in goalkeeping and soccer. Since 2002, he has worked with U.S.\u00a0 National Teams when he joined the women\u2019s coaching staff as the goalkeeper coach. He helped\u00a0 lead the team to a third-place finish in the 2003 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup and the gold medal at\u00a0 the 2004 Athens Olympics.<\/p>\n
In 2005, Phil became an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach with the U.S. Men\u2019s National Team,\u00a0 which won the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup and competed in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n
Phil is the only coach to serve on the staff of both the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s National Teams and\u00a0 attend FIFA World Cups with each team. The Premier goalkeeper coach has also trained some of\u00a0 the best goalkeepers in the world, including Hope Solo, Brianna Scurry, Tim Howard and Kasey\u00a0 Keller.<\/p>\n
Phil has been a U.S. National Licensing instructor since 2001, teaching the National Goalkeeping\u00a0 License and other USSF courses for over a decade. As well as being an instructor for the USSF, he\u00a0 holds his USSF A License and National Goalkeeper License.<\/p>\n
Phil Wheddon is currently the goalkeeper coach for the Major League Soccer Club Philadelphia\u00a0 Union, whose goal keeper, Jamaica\u2019s National Team Captain Andre Blake, won the 2022 Allstate\u00a0 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, his 3rd\u00a0title in this category. He is the first player in MLS history\u00a0 to reach this achievement.<\/p>\n
Wheddon\u2019s Philadelphia Union will also contest the final of the 2022 MLS Cup in Los Angeles on\u00a0 Saturday 5th\u00a0November, 2022 from 4pm.<\/p>\n
