The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) is very pleased to announce the arrival of the first shipment of pipes for use in the Green Climate Funded $125 million project in Grenada.<\/p>\n

Twenty-two (22) containers valued at over EC$4.5 million are on island for distribution to project sites.<\/p>\n

The Green Climate Funded G-CREWS Project aims to increase systemic climate change resilience in Grenada\u2019s water sector and better water supply services, especially in times of drought and after extreme weather events by establishing sustainable water resources management in Grenada. Further, it aims to promote water savings in the agriculture and tourism sectors, water loss reduction in the distribution systems, increased water storage (raw and treated) and cost reduction and green energy in water supply systems.<\/p>\n

The G-CREWS Project introduces a complete paradigm shift in the water sector of Grenada. Under this project there will be the development of new water supply from St Margaret\u2019s River, construction of a new dam at Les Avocats, St David, the installation of 16 treated water storage reservoirs at locations throughout the island including Carriacou and the installation of 20 km pipelines at locations throughout the island.<\/p>\n

Significant work has already gone into this project and boots on the ground are expected in the first half of 2023. The final shipment of pipes will be on island at the end of January 2023, following which there will be the arrival of water storage tanks.<\/p>\n

The single largest investment to date in the island\u2019s water sector will be realised under this project which is jointly financed by the Green Climate Fund and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) under its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the Government of Grenada and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to the tune of EUR 42.057 million (EC$125.409 million).<\/p>\n

Overall, the G-CREWS project aims to comprehensively mainstream and implement climate resilience into Grenada\u2019s water supply addressing 2 main risks and vulnerabilities \u2014 fresh water availability and disaster preparedness. It addresses the resilience of vulnerable people and communities in areas relating to operational risks associated with climate change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
