The Grenada Senior Men\u2019s National team ended their first in\u00a0 a series of three (3) international friendlies against Barbados with a one all draw at the Fond\u00a0 Playing Field, St.Patrick\u2019s. The match saw Team Grenada creating many opportunities to score\u00a0 but failing to convert until extra time in the second half. Grenada\u2019s captain Jamal Ray Charles was\u00a0 awarded a penalty in the 90+1 minute after a foul in the 18 yard box. His penalty kick was\u00a0 deflected by the Barbados keeper but Charles wasted no time in netting the rebound.<\/p>\n
However, just 2 minutes after the Grenada celebration #9 for Barbados Tajio James surprised the\u00a0 Grenada defence to find the back of the net in the 90+3 minute of play.<\/p>\n
Following the match, Grenada Senior Men\u2019s National team Head Coach Anthony \u2018Nixon\u2019 Modeste said while it was the team\u2019s first engagment since last year it was a match Grenada should have\u00a0 won. \u201cWe threw away numerous chances and we scored late, which is something we need to\u00a0 work on and grow from. However, I believe we will come back stronger in the next match.\u201d<\/p>\n
Goal scorer and captain for Grenada Jamal Ray Charles said it was a good feeling to score for his\u00a0 country again but a lapse in concentration cost them the win. He said, \u201cGoing forward, we will\u00a0 correct our mistakes and do much better in the upcoming matches.\u201d<\/p>\n
The upcoming friendlies will take place at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium at 7pm on Friday February 24 and the Cuthbert Peters Park, Gouyave at 4pm on Sunday February 26. The matches\u00a0 on the 24th\u00a0and 26th\u00a0are FIFA and Concacaf sanctioned. The international friendlies are part of the\u00a0 Senior Men\u2019s National team\u2019s preparation for their upcoming Concacaf Nations League match\u00a0 against the USA on March 24, 8pm at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.<\/p>\n
Before the March 24 encounter, Grenada is expected to also engage the St.Lucia Senior Men\u2019s\u00a0 team and the La Horquetta Rangers out of Trinidad in the following friendlies:<\/p>\n
