The Grenada Senior Men\u2019s National Team ended it\u2019s international\u00a0 friendly series against St.Lucia with a convincing 2-0 victory on Sunday at the Cuthbert Peters\u00a0 Park, Gouyave. This victory comes on the heels of a close 2-1 loss at the Kirani James Athletics\u00a0 Stadium on Friday 3rd\u00a0March.<\/p>\n
On Friday, both teams played for the majority of the first half with neither side converting their\u00a0 chances until the deadlock was broken by St.Lucia in the 30th\u00a0minute. St.Lucia then followed\u00a0 with a strike in the 69th\u00a0minute of play. Grenada\u2019s Shermine Williams put Grenada on the board\u00a0 with a skillful goal in the 88th\u00a0minute, his first with the Senior Men\u2019s National Team.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, it was different story with Grenada dominating the field from the start and Kimron\u00a0 Marshall finding the net with a header from a throw-in, in the 5th\u00a0minute of play. It was the\u00a0 defender\u2019s first goal after being on the senior team for the past 13 years. Kriston Julien\u00a0 followed up with a goal in the 68th\u00a0minute to seal the victory to the delight of the home crowd.<\/p>\n
Following the match, Head Coach Anthony \u2018Nixon\u2019Modeste said, \u201cThe team worked very hard\u00a0 for this victory which will boost their confidence going into their encounters against the La\u00a0 Horquetta Rangers on the weekend and the USA on March 24.<\/p>\n
The team on Sunday was without some of the more recognized faces such as Jamal Ray Charles\u00a0 and Mackell Ganness, however, Modeste said, \u201cWe are keen to give all our players a chance to\u00a0 gain experience and this team worked hard to deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celebrating his first National team goal, Kimron Marshall said, \u201cIt\u2019s a special feeling not only\u00a0 scoring my first goal, but scoring on my home ground, where I grew up playing football. It will\u00a0 motivate me for our upcoming matches.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kriston Julien who was also in a celebratory mode after netting his second goal for the national\u00a0 team said, \u201cIt\u2019s a great feeling to be on the score sheet for your country in a victory. I am\u00a0 motivated to work even harder in the upcoming matches.\u201d<\/p>\n
Team Grenada will play Trinidad professional team La Horquetta Rangers on March 10 and 12\u00a0 respectively as the final fixtures before their Concacaf Nations League match against the USA\u00a0 on Friday March 24, 8pm at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
