{"id":12661,"date":"2024-09-18T10:47:02","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T14:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/?p=12661"},"modified":"2024-09-18T10:47:02","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T14:47:02","slug":"sporting-icons-among-13-set-to-receive-honorary-degrees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/18\/sporting-icons-among-13-set-to-receive-honorary-degrees\/","title":{"rendered":"Sporting Icons Among 13 Set To Receive Honorary Degrees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">caribbean.loopnews-The University of the West Indies (UWI) is set to honour 13 distinguished individuals with honorary doctorates in recognition of their significant contributions across various fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">Among the recipients are celebrated sports figures Sir Curtly Ambrose from Antigua and Kirani James from Grenada, who will be honoured for their remarkable achievements in cricket and athletics, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">The 2024 honorary degrees will be conferred during the UWI\u2019s graduation ceremonies, which are scheduled to run from October 12 to November 9, 2024, across the university&#8217;s five campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">Five Islands Campus \u2013 October 12<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose of Antigua and Barbuda will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his outstanding contributions to cricket.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">His Excellency Ambassador Dr W Aubrey Webson of Antigua and Barbuda will also be awarded a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his extensive work in human rights advocacy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">Cave Hill Campus \u2013 October 19<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Dame Susan Dilys Dougan, Governor General of St Vincent and The Grenadines, will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for her public service and educational contributions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Sir Trevor Hassell of Barbados will receive a Doctor of Science (DSc) for his advancements in medicine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Elton Deighton Elombe Mottley of Barbados will be awarded a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for his contributions to culture and the arts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Ralph Taylor of Barbados will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his impact on the tourism sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">St. Augustine Campus \u2013 October 24 to 26<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Dr Maniram Ragbir of Trinidad and Tobago\/Britain will receive a Doctor of Science (DSc) for his work as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Dr Patricia Rodney of Guyana will be honoured with a Doctor of Science (DSc) for her dual roles as a medical practitioner and human rights defender.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">Mona Campus \u2013 October 31 to November 2<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Donald Anderson of Jamaica will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his achievements as an entrepreneur, market researcher, and sports administrator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Monte Blake of Jamaica will be awarded a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for his pioneering contributions to music.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Courtney Campbell of Jamaica will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Dr Conrad Douglas of Jamaica will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his development efforts in the bauxite industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">Global Campus \u2013 November 9<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Kirani James of Grenada will be awarded a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his excellence in athletics.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-TT\">These honorary degrees celebrate the exceptional achievements and contributions of these individuals, reflecting UWI\u2019s commitment to recognizing the impact of leaders in various fields.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>caribbean.loopnews-The University of the West Indies (UWI) is set to honour 13 distinguished individuals with honorary doctorates in recognition of their significant contributions across various fields.
