St. George\u2019s, Grenada \u2013Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Export\u00a0 Development, Hon. Joseph Andall, reaffirmed Grenada\u2019s unwavering commitment to regional\u00a0 integration and the pursuit of sustainable development, at the 59th Regular Meeting of the Council\u00a0 for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), which was held in Georgetown, Guyana,\u00a0 November 27-28, 2024.<\/p>\n
Minister Andall was joined by Ms. Portia Fraser, Trade Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,\u00a0 Trade, and Export Development, and engaged in discussions critical to advancing regional trade\u00a0 and economic priorities.<\/p>\n
The COTED meeting brought together CARICOM member states to discuss pivotal issues shaping\u00a0 the region\u2019s economic landscape. Among the topics discussed were the free movement of\u00a0 Community nationals, the Revised Draft Policy on the Regulation of Mergers and Acquisitions,\u00a0 trade in goods, and the establishment of a Community Intellectual Property Framework.<\/p>\n
A highlight of the discussions was the progress achieved under the CARICOM Single Market and\u00a0 Economy (CSME) framework, particularly regarding the Free Movement of Skills Regime. This\u00a0 initiative has significantly expanded opportunities for CARICOM citizens by enabling the mobility\u00a0 of approved categories of workers across member states, deepening regional integration and\u00a0 economic collaboration.<\/p>\n
Minister Andall emphasised the urgency of tackling critical challenges, including climate change,\u00a0 digital transformation, and improving the region\u2019s competitiveness, and stated, \u201cThe progress we\u00a0 see in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy reflects the strength of our unity and shared\u00a0 vision as a region.\u201d<\/p>\n
The COTED meeting concluded with several resolutions designed to enhance regional trade\u00a0 efficiency, promote innovation, and strengthen economic development initiatives. These outcomes\u00a0 underscore CARICOM\u2019s collective resolve to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for all\u00a0 member states.<\/p>\n
