On November 22, High Commissioner Rach\u00e9r Croney attended the inaugural African\u00a0 Caribbean Sustainability and Investment Summit (ACSIS) held in London. The three-day\u00a0 summit brought together key stakeholders from the African and Caribbean business\u00a0 community to discuss, explore and strategize sustainable trade and investment opportunities\u00a0 across several sectors, including climate resilience, renewable energy, and tourism. With a focus on sustainability, the event was held under the theme,\u00a0\u2018Leveraging the African,\u00a0 Caribbean and UK Business Opportunities: Investing in a Sustainable Future.\u2019\u00a0<\/i>The Summit\u00a0 sought to recognize the role of African and Caribbean businesses in the diaspora, identify\u00a0 how they can contribute to sustainable economic development, help mitigate the climate\u00a0 crisis, build strategic partnerships and leverage business opportunities with key stakeholders\u00a0 across the UK, Africa, and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
Over the three days industry experts discussed challenges, opportunities, and solutions\u00a0 towards building sustainable development and strengthening the connections between the\u00a0 African and Caribbean region as natural trading partners. Businesses within the diaspora also\u00a0 highlighted the work they are doing, and the scalability of projects that can address the needs\u00a0 across both regions.<\/p>\n
Some of the discussions focused on sustainable relationships for growth and resilience, the\u00a0 need for transformative leadership, elevating our common culture to create a common future,\u00a0 the power of the diaspora engagement for growth, power and energy solutions and\u00a0 sustainability and innovation as levers for economic growth in the global south.<\/p>\n
High Commissioner Rach\u00e9r Croney participated in the panel on\u00a0\u2018Creating Equitable Tourism\u00a0 Destinations: Leveraging Diaspora Investment for Community-Led Development.\u2019\u00a0<\/i>The High\u00a0 Commissioner discussed Grenada\u2019s efforts to promote sustainable tourism development, the\u00a0\u00a0innovative ways in which communities maintain the authenticity of our tourism product,\u00a0 initiatives geared at ensuring development enhances rather than deplete local cultural\u00a0 practices, and how diaspora investment can be channelled into Grenada. She noted that, \u201cto\u00a0 maintain the authenticity and Pure Grenada brand, it is a country-wide effort which involves\u00a0working with communities and not in isolation of them, and this is what resonates with the\u00a0 diaspora and many visitors to our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
