The Government of Grenada, through its Government\u00a0 Information Service (GIS), has entered into a landmark partnership with UWItv Global, the official public information arm of The University of the West Indies (The UWI). This strategic alliance aims to\u00a0 enhance media collaboration and strengthen regional communication efforts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The partnership was formally established on February 21, 2024, with the signing of a Memorandum of\u00a0 Understanding (MOU) during the 48th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads, held in Barbados. The agreement was signed by Grenada\u2019s Prime Minister and Minister of Information, Honourable\u00a0 Dickon Mitchell, and Vice-Chancellor of the UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on this momentous occasion, Vice-Chancellor Beckles highlighted the pivotal role of UWItv\u00a0 in amplifying Caribbean voices:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cUWI is unique in having a 24\/7 educational channel dedicated to\u00a0 Caribbean people and culture while engaging with the world. I am especially proud that UWItv is responsible for covering these types of government meetings annually, disseminating content worldwide\u00a0 to international networks. We are honoured to play this role in serving the Government of Grenada.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Prime Minister, Hon. Dickon Mitchell also emphasised the benefits of this collaboration:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThe opportunity for the Government Information Service to collaborate and benefit from The\u00a0 University of the West Indies and UWItv is a natural and welcome relationship. We look forward to it growing from strength to strength, and we expect that GIS will see improvements in content quality\u00a0 and variety through this partnership.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Strengthening Media, Knowledge Sharing, and Regional Development\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

UWItv Global is a leading multimedia platform that broadcasts across 20 countries, including\u00a0 Panama and Latin America, reaching over 5 million viewers through FLOW, the region\u2019s foremost telecommunications provider. This partnership reinforces Grenada\u2019s commitment to\u00a0 media excellence, knowledge-sharing, and public education, aligning with broader Caribbean\u00a0 development initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By combining UWItv\u2019s academic and technological resources with GIS\u2019s expertise in public broadcasting, this collaboration enhances the region\u2019s media capacity while fostering a deeper\u00a0 understanding of key socio-economic and cultural issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

Key Areas of Cooperation under the MOU Include:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u25aa\u00a0<\/span>Development of specialised media programs addressing regional priorities such as climate\u00a0 resilience, public health, and cultural preservation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa\u00a0<\/span>Training and capacity-building through internships, joint workshops, and seminars for\u00a0 technical staff and media professionals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa\u00a0<\/span>Advancement of research and collaboration in media technologies, audience engagement\u00a0 strategies, and digital broadcasting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25aa\u00a0<\/span>Exploration of emerging solutions, including artificial intelligence and new media\u00a0 technologies, to enhance media operations and digital content production.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
