This landmark designation by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) marks a\u00a0 transformative moment for Grenada and the region\u2019s creative industries, affirming the Caribbean\u2019s\u00a0 and Grenada\u2019s growing influence in the global creative economy. The appointment is the result of\u00a0 a strategic partnership between CAIPO and GOCA, reflecting a shared vision to elevate IP\u00a0 awareness and advocacy across creative sectors.<\/p>\n
Senator the Honourable Adrian Thomas, Minister for Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture,\u00a0 expressed his support, stating, \u201cWe are profoundly proud of Jevaughn John\u2019s historic appointment\u00a0 as the region\u2019s first-ever WIPO IP Youth Ambassador. At just 29, V\u2019ghn has emerged as one of the region\u2019s most dynamic cultural voices, winning\u00a0 Grenada\u2019s Groovy Soca Monarch in 2019 and collaborating with leading Soca Artistes throughout\u00a0 the Caribbean. Now, in his new role as WIPO IP Youth Ambassador, he will leverage his platform\u00a0 to promote IP literacy, creative entrepreneurship, and the protection of cultural assets.<\/p>\n

V\u2019ghn\u2019s journey to this global honour began in 2024, when Grenada was named \u201cSpotlight\u00a0 Country\u201d at the WIPO Assemblies in Geneva. Although Hurricane Beryl disrupted his planned\u00a0 performance, CAIPO and GOCA continued to champion his nomination, culminating in WIPO\u2019s\u00a0 official recognition in early 2025.<\/p>\n

Established in 2019, the WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors Programme honours young creators who\u00a0 demonstrate leadership in IP awareness and innovation. Ambassadors undergo specialised IP\u00a0 training and serve as national and international representatives for youth engagement in IP matters.\u00a0 V\u2019ghn\u2019s selection followed a rigorous evaluation of his contributions to culture and his advocacy\u00a0 for creative rights and sustainability.<\/p>\n
