The Government of Grenada proudly\u00a0 announces participation in the official launch workshop of the Green Energy Efficiency\u00a0 Project, a transformative regional initiative spearheaded by the World Bank, the\u00a0 Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, and the Caribbean Centre\u00a0 for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).<\/p>\n
The workshop marked a significant milestone in the shared commitment to enhance energy\u00a0 efficiency, reducing emissions, and building climate resilience across the Eastern Caribbean.<\/p>\n
Grenada was represented by senior officials from the Ministry of Climate Resilience and the\u00a0 Ministry of Finance, along with representatives from Grenada Electricity Services Ltd\u00a0 (GRENLEC) and key energy stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Grenada stands to benefit significantly from the project through targeted interventions\u00a0 aimed at modernising its energy landscape. Key benefits include:<\/p>\n
Reduction in Energy Costs:\u00a0<\/b>Deployment of energy-efficient technologies in public\u00a0 buildings will reduce operational expenses and enhance fiscal space for critical services.<\/p>\n
Technical Assistance and Capacity Building:\u00a0<\/b>Training and institutional strengthening\u00a0 for national agencies to implement and maintain sustainable energy efficiency practices.<\/p>\n
Access to Financing for Green Infrastructure:\u00a0<\/b>Opportunities to finance clean energy\u00a0 investments, including construction and retrofitting projects aligned with energy<\/p>\n
Climate Change Mitigation:\u00a0<\/b>Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel\u00a0 reliance supports Grenada\u2019s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris\u00a0 Agreement.<\/p>\n
Ms. Peron Johnson, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, emphasised, \u201cThis project\u00a0 represents a turning point for Grenada\u2019s energy future. Through this partnership, we are\u00a0 not only improving how we use energy but also safeguarding our environment and economic\u00a0 stability for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Alexander Agosti, Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank, highlighted the Bank\u2019s\u00a0 commitment to supporting Caribbean nations in achieving energy security and climate\u00a0 resilience. \u201cWe are pleased to collaborate with regional partners to help scale up energy\u00a0 efficiency solutions that are practical, impactful, and aligned with each country\u2019s unique\u00a0 development goals,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Ms. Gabriela Elizondo Azuela, Practice Manager for the World Bank\u2019s Energy and Extractives\u00a0 Global Practice, underscored the broader regional vision: \u201cEnergy efficiency is a cornerstone\u00a0 of sustainable growth. This project not only promotes smart energy use but also builds\u00a0 resilience into national infrastructure, helping the region adapt to climate challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Mohammad Nagdee, Head of CCREEE, commended the regional momentum behind\u00a0 regulatory harmonisation and technical innovation: \u201cCREE is proud to facilitate the sharing\u00a0 of best practices and technical frameworks that will strengthen the enabling environment for energy efficiency across the OECS.\u201d<\/p>\n
GG Ephraim, Programme Director, Sustainable Energy Unit at the OECS Commission,\u00a0 stressed the importance of regional collaboration: \u201cThis project demonstrates the power of\u00a0 collective action. By working together, we can unlock meaningful change in how energy is\u00a0 used, regulated, and financed throughout the Eastern Caribbean.\u201d<\/p>\n
Government officials from Saint Lucia and Guyana also contributed to the workshop, sharing\u00a0 national experiences and reaffirming their commitment to accelerating energy efficiency in\u00a0 their respective countries.<\/p>\n
The Green Energy Efficiency Project aligns with Grenada\u2019s Energy Policy and National\u00a0 Sustainable Development Plan 2020\u20132035, reinforcing the nation\u2019s vision of a modern,\u00a0 climate-resilient economy powered by clean, affordable, and efficient energy.<\/p>\n
