ST GEORGE\u2019S, GRENADA<\/strong>\u2013 The Government of Grenada is making strides in strengthening governance across its statutory bodies and state-owned enterprises, with the continued rollout of the Directors\u2019 Education and Accreditation Program (DEAP).<\/p>\n

The initiative, which aims to enhance professionalism, accountability, and strategic oversight within public sector institutions, saw the successful completion of its 7th cohort of directors during a three-day training session held from May 19\u201321, 2025, at the Coyaba Beach Resort conference room.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the training, Minister for Finance, Hon. Dennis Cornwall, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to institutional reform, stating:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Government is committed to the reform of our Statutory Bodies and State-Owned Enterprises to ensure that they deliver their mandate in a professional, efficient, and effective manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The advanced training programme is facilitated by the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE) in partnership with the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada (CGIC). Participants receive intensive training in key areas including governance, financial management, and strategic risk oversight\u2014critical skills required for effective directorship in the public sector.<\/p>\n

Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Richard Duncan, emphasized the importance of capacity-building in public institutions:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis course ensures that directors are equipped with the essential skills to provide the level of oversight and leadership expected of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

DEAP not only equips directors with practical knowledge but also provides them with the opportunity to earn the internationally recognized \u2018Accredited Director\u2019 designation, granted by the CGIC. Since the programme\u2019s inception in February 2023, 149 directors have achieved this certification. With the completion of this latest cohort, the total number of accredited directors will rise to 174. The government has invested approximately $820,000 in the training to date.<\/p>\n

The 25 directors who participated in this 7th cohort represent a wide cross-section of statutory bodies and state enterprises, including:<\/p>\n
