The Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund\u00a0 (GSDTF), with financing support from the Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement (AFD) under\u00a0 the Climate-Resilient and Blue Economy (CRAB) Project, will host a Round Table Discussion with sea moss farmers on\u00a0<\/span>Thursday, August 21st, 2025,\u00a0<\/b>at\u00a0<\/span>10:00 a.m,\u00a0<\/b>in the\u00a0<\/span>VIP Room\u00a0<\/b>of the\u00a0<\/span>Kirani James National Stadium.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The Caribbean Regional Architecture for Biodiversity (CRAB Project) is working to strengthen\u00a0 the sea moss industry by supporting farmers and local communities across the Caribbean.\u00a0 Recognizing both the economic potential of sea moss and the need for sustainable, inclusive\u00a0 growth, the project aims to provide small grants in countries such as Saint Lucia, Grenada, and\u00a0 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. These grants will help farmers and community groups build\u00a0 capacity, adopt sustainable practices, improve market access, and increase the value of sea\u00a0 moss products. By doing so, CRAB not only empowers sea moss farmers but also promotes\u00a0 conservation, climate resilience, and long-term economic development in environmentally\u00a0 sensitive areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion will highlight new opportunities for sea moss farmers to access funding through\u00a0 the GSDTF for projects that advance sustainable sea moss farming, promote value-added\u00a0 product development, and support community empowerment. Special emphasis will be placed\u00a0 on initiatives that engage women, youth, and marginalized groups, while fostering eco-friendly\u00a0 practices that protect marine ecosystems and strengthen local economies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this consultation, sea moss farmers will be able to share ideas, network with peers,\u00a0 and contribute directly to shaping the future of Grenada\u2019s blue economy. The session will also\u00a0 provide guidance on proposal development and the application process for funding\u00a0 opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GSDTF-Ms. Jennifer James, explains that\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSea moss farming has immense potential not just as a livelihood, but as a driver of innovation,\u00a0 sustainability, and community transformation,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>She further highlighted that\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThis round\u00a0 table will ensure that farmers are fully engaged in developing solutions that benefit\u00a0 people, the environment, and the Grenadian economy.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
