\u00a0<\/b>A new festival with the potential to become a major economic driver\u00a0attracting thousands of visitors to Carriacou and Petite Martinique was officially launched\u00a0\u00a0on Friday, 16th\u00a0January, 2026.<\/p>\n
The inaugural Lobster and Lambie Festival is an initiative of the Grenada Tourism\u00a0\u00a0Authority (GTA) and is designed to celebrate the culinary heritage, culture and community\u00a0\u00a0spirit of the sister islands.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the official opening ceremony at the Windward Fish Market, Chief Executive\u00a0\u00a0Officer of the Grenada Tourism Authority, Stacey Liburd, said the vision is for the festival\u00a0\u00a0to evolve into a signature event that both locals and visitors can proudly claim, and one\u00a0\u00a0that travellers can plan their trips around in years to come.<\/p>\n
She noted that today\u2019s visitors are increasingly seeking experiences that are authentic,\u00a0\u00a0rooted in place, and that allow for meaningful connection with the destinations they visit.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday marks the beginning of what we believe can become a defining experience\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>for Carriacou and Petite Martinique. At the GTA, we are very deliberate about the\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>types of experiences we support and develop. For Carriacou and Petite Martinique,\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>it was important for us to focus on tourism that is authentic, community-rooted and\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>economically meaningful,\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Liburd said.<\/p>\n
Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Tevin\u00a0\u00a0Andrews, welcomed the addition of the festival to the island\u2019s growing calendar of events,\u00a0\u00a0noting that Carriacou continues to establish itself as a hub for festivals, including the\u00a0\u00a0Carriacou Regatta, Maroon Festival, Corn Festival and Parang Festival.<\/p>\n
However, Minister Andrews expressed concern about limited room stock during peak\u00a0\u00a0periods and challenged accommodation providers to expand and upgrade to meet\u00a0\u00a0growing demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoom stock is a major concern in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Thanks to this\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>wonderful initiative, I don\u2019t think there are any more rooms available in Carriacou.\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>We need to increase capacity, and I am pleased that we have been collaborating\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>with three hotels, one of which \u2014 True Blue Bay Resort \u2014 is expected to begin\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>construction of a thirty-plus room boutique-style hotel at L\u2019Esterre Bay sometime\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>in September,\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>he said.<\/p>\n
Minister for Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture, Hon. Adrian Thomas, pledged the\u00a0\u00a0Government\u2019s full commitment to the growth and sustainability of the festival, describing\u00a0\u00a0it as the beginning of a new chapter for the sister islands.<\/p>\n
He said the Lobster and Lambie Festival has the potential to become a flagship attraction\u00a0\u00a0that strengthens the international profile of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.\u00a0\u201cTo our\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>visitors, this festival sends a clear and powerful message: when you come to\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Carriacou and Petite Martinique, you are not simply visiting beautiful islands. You\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>are entering a living culture, tasting stories passed down through generations, and\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>meeting people who take pride in who they are and what they offer,\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Minister\u00a0\u00a0Thomas said.<\/p>\n
He added that the festival aligns directly with the Government\u2019s economic vision of\u00a0\u00a0developing tourism that is inclusive, locally driven and sustainable.<\/p>\n
Marketing Director of the Grenada Tourism Authority, Tornia Charles, emphasised the\u00a0\u00a0initiative\u2019s focus on tourism development and economic impact. \u201cOne of the aims of this\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>event is to increase visitor arrivals to Carriacou and Petite Martinique. This speaks\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>directly to the economic benefits for the islands. It also promotes culture by\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>showcasing local traditions, culinary skills, music and heritage, while\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>strengthening Carriacou and Petite Martinique\u2019s brand identity as a premier\u00a0<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>seafood destination,\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Charles said.<\/p>\n
The Lobster and Lambie Festival was held over a three-day period, with one day\u00a0\u00a0dedicated to activities on Petite Martinique.
