Dennis Cornwall has concluded a 3-day official visit to the United Kingdom marked by a series of high-level engagements with multilateral institutions, UK government partners, private-sector investors, and the Grenadian diaspora.

The visit advanced Grenada’s priorities in international financial reform, debt sustainability, climate and disaster-resilience financing, investment mobilisation, and regional cooperation, while reinforcing the country’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that support sustainable economic growth and development.

Advancing a fairer international financial system

A central focus of the minister’s visit was Grenada’s continued advocacy for a fairer and more responsive international financial system for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

During a meeting with Hon. Shirley Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Minister Cornwall discussed the importance of greater recognition of climate and economic vulnerability in determining access to concessional financing. The discussions also explored the continued expansion of innovative financial instruments, including Climate Resilient Debt Clauses, an area in which Grenada has been a regional pioneer.

Additional areas of discussion included disaster-risk financing, mobilising private investment, and opportunities to strengthen intra-Commonwealth trade and investment.

With the Commonwealth’s 56 member states, including Grenada, preparing to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda in November, Minister Cornwall emphasised that the unique financing, climate, and development needs of Small Island Developing States must remain a priority on the Commonwealth’s agenda.

Climate Finance, Renewable Energy and the Blue Economy

The minister also met with Suresh Yadav, Director of the Commonwealth’s Climate Change and Oceans Directorate (CCOD), for discussions on climate financing, blue economy opportunities, and Grenada’s renewable energy transition, with particular attention to geothermal and solar energy.

The CCOD reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration with Grenada and to exploring additional assistance to help translate the country’s climate and blue economy priorities into bankable, investment-ready projects.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the CCOD to brief the minister on the range of technical assistance currently being provided to Grenada through the Commonwealth Blue Charter and other capacity-building initiatives. This support includes policy reform, identification of Grenada’s maritime boundaries, implementation of the country’s nationally determined contributions (NDCs), and technical assistance within the energy sector.

Unlocking financing for infrastructure and development

Minister Cornwall also engaged with a team from UK Export Finance (UKEF) to explore financing opportunities for infrastructure and development projects in Grenada.

Discussions highlighted UKEF’s existing support for infrastructure, transportation, and renewable energy in Grenada, as well as opportunities to develop a structured pipeline of projects. Such a pipeline would help connect Grenadian projects with UK companies, technology, expertise, and financing, creating new avenues for investment and development.

Expanding Grenada’s investor base

On 9 September, Minister Cornwall attended a meeting at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster with Virendra Sharma, former Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall, and Vijay Goel, Senior Partner at Singhania & Co. and Founder of the Indo-European Business Forum.

The discussions focused on Grenada’s economic diversification agenda and opportunities to broaden the country’s investor base across the United Kingdom, India, and Europe. Particular attention was given to investment opportunities in tourism, agriculture, and renewable energy, as well as strengthening Grenada’s engagement with parliamentarians on issues affecting Small Island Developing States.

Unlocking opportunities in the maritime and yachting sectors

As part of his bilateral engagements, Minister Cornwall met with representatives from TTSOLS Ltd and Klas Shipping to explore opportunities for developing new revenue streams through Grenada’s yachting and maritime sectors.

The discussions examined the potential for these sectors to generate significant economic activity, create employment opportunities, and contribute to Grenada’s broader economic diversification and revenue-generation objectives.

Strengthening regional cooperation on reparatory justice

During his time in the United Kingdom, Minister Cornwall also joined Hon. Olivia Grange, Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, at the Jamaican High Commission for a Strategic Roundtable Discussion on Reparatory Justice.

The dialogue addressed the purpose and status of Jamaica’s petition for reparatory justice, strengthening diplomatic support, deepening cooperation among Caribbean and African states, and reaffirming regional leadership in advancing the global reparatory justice movement.

Engaging the Grenadian Diaspora

The minister’s visit culminated in an engagement with the Grenadian diaspora in the United Kingdom, where he delivered remarks on Grenada’s economic outlook, alongside presentations by the Grenada Tourism Authority and Project Polaris.

The engagement provided an important platform for sharing updates on Grenada’s economic trajectory while highlighting opportunities for members of the diaspora to remain connected to, and contribute to, the country’s development.

Strengthening partnerships for Grenada’s next phase of growth

Minister Cornwall’s visit to the United Kingdom reinforced Grenada’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, advancing climate and economic resilience, mobilising investment and development financing, and maintaining strong ties with its overseas community.

His participation in Flavours of Grenada 2026, together with the strategic engagements held before and after the event, underscored a clear message: Grenada offers opportunities across multiple sectors and at multiple levels, and the country is ready to forge the partnerships necessary to propel its next phase of growth and development.

The visit further demonstrated Grenada’s proactive approach to building relationships that can translate national priorities into tangible investment, financing, trade, and development opportunities, while positioning the country for sustainable and resilient economic growth.

High Commission for Grenada

Minister of Finance Hon.
