The Ministry of Education, Human Resource\u00a0Development, Religious Affairs and Information has learned of a new and dangerous game, named\u00a0the \u201cJump Challenge<\/b>\u201d, that is becoming popular among high school students both internationally\u00a0and regionally.<\/p>\n
In the\u00a0\u2018Jump Challenge\u2019<\/b>, all three people stand in a horizontal line, facing forward, and aim to jump\u00a0to touch the ceiling, or to simply jump, altogether. However the two people on the outside both use\u00a0the leg closest to the person in the middle, to trip that person during the jump.<\/p>\n
The person then falls\u00a0to the ground. Presently, there are several videos of this game circulating on the Internet.<\/p>\n
The game is very dangerous, because the person who falls can sustain many types of injuries,\u00a0including broken bones, head injuries and spinal injuries, among other things. Injuries can be serious\u00a0enough to result in death, based on the nature of the fall sustained.<\/p>\n
This Ministry hereby alerts the general public, particularly parents, to be aware of the serious nature\u00a0of this game and the resulting harm that can befall their children, or relatives, if they participate in\u00a0the \u2018Jump Challenge\u2019.<\/p>\n
While students are encouraged to be physically active and to socialize with\u00a0their peers, the \u2018Jump Challenge\u2019 does not constitute a constructive social activity. Head and spinal\u00a0injuries sometimes take months and years to heal, while some people become and remain paralyzed.<\/p>\n
Health is critical to one\u2019s quality of life. No one wants to spend their youth and beyond incapacitated,\u00a0but the \u2018Jump Challenge\u2019, can result in undesirable outcomes.<\/p>\n
This Ministry therefore seeks the cooperation of the public in making others aware of this very\u00a0dangerous game and remains hopeful that our young people \u2013 our students \u2013 will exercise good\u00a0judgment and refrain from the \u2018Jump Challenge\u2019<\/p>\n
