Plans are afoot by the Ministries of Youth Development, Sports, Culture and the Arts, Climate Resilience, Foreign Affairs and the British High Commission, to observe Commonwealth Day 2020.<\/p>\n
The day is celebrated annually on the second Monday in March each year, to recognise the work of\u00a0Commonwealth\u00a0member states and to promote understanding and cooperation on global issues.<\/p>\n
In Grenada, the day\u2019s observance on Monday, 9 March will include an expo and sitting of the second session of the National Youth Parliament.<\/p>\n
Discussions will focus on Grenada\u2019s fight against plastic pollution and policy framework by government to address the overall issue of climate change.<\/p>\n
The activities will also include presentations by the Presentation Brothers College Choir and speeches from Government Ministers and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Grenada first joined the Commonwealth in 1974. Since then it has celebrated the day every year, with school-related activities and other significant initiatives.<\/p>\n
Every year a specific theme is chosen for\u00a0Commonwealth Day<\/a>. The 2020 theme is \u201cDelivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, and transforming.\u201d<\/p>\n British Resident Commissioner, Wendy Freeman said, \u201cI am delighted to be jointly supporting the Commonwealth Day 2020 Youth Parliament.
