The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation wishes to inform the public\u00a0that we are tirelessly working to facilitate flights in and out of Grenada,\u00a0now that our borders are reopened.\u00a0Understanding the challenges posed in recent months by the COVID\u201319 pandemic,\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Tourism and\u00a0Civil Aviation has outlined certain requirements that\u00a0airlines must go through in order to operate, according to the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCA) standards and procedures.\u00a0In recent days,\u00a0it was brought to the Ministry\u2019s attention that the OCL\u00a0Barbados Ltd.,\u00a0operating as One Caribbean,\u00a0had proceeded\u00a0to\u00a0advertise, schedule and book people on regional flights into and out of\u00a0Grenada. The Ministry has always been clear that operators need to go\u00a0through the appropriate licensing process for Grenada.\u00a0One Caribbean has not yet done\u00a0so, and\u00a0were\u00a0advised repeatedly that they should,\u00a0before they could operate.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation is,\u00a0therefore,\u00a0deeply concerned about the manner in which the management of One\u00a0Caribbean has conducted its business in recent days,\u00a0in regard to the\u00a0operation of flights into and out of Grenada.\u00a0On Monday,\u00a020th July, 2020,\u00a0a meeting was convened between the CEO\u00a0of the Grenada Airport Authority, the Senior Civil Aviation officer of the\u00a0Ministry of Tourism and the CEO of One Caribbean to discuss the issue,\u00a0and\u00a0the guidelines were clearly reiterated. It was agreed that the airline\u00a0should desist from operating into Grenada until the licensing process is complete.<\/p>\n
It was very disturbing to discover that the airline had already posted\u00a0schedules and\u00a0had engaged in\u00a0negotiations with people desiring to\u00a0enter or leave the country, without the appropriate standard procedure\u00a0being concluded, as advised and required.<\/p>\n
W<\/i>e were informed of three landings in Grenada on the weekend. Each\u00a0time, Civil Aviation made compassionate exemptions because we\u00a0<\/i>were\u00a0concerned about the welfare of our citizens who had booked those\u00a0flights.\u00a0One Caribbean was explicitly reminded that they needed the\u00a0appropriate license\u00a0to\u00a0operate continuous\u00a0flights.\u00a0It has\u00a0become\u00a0obvious that One Caribbean has not heeded the requirements,\u00a0and that\u00a0we must insist on compliance with the requisite procedure before they are allowed to continue their operations in and out of Grenada. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has established relations with Caribbean Airlines, interCaribbean Airways and SVG Air,\u00a0all of which are complying with the aviation requirements\u00a0for operation. Flight\u00a0schedules for\u00a0these airlines are already being posted on their respective\u00a0websites.<\/p>\n
We continue to hold dialogue with\u00a0all stakeholders, including One Caribbean, and we expect that\u00a0increased airlift, regionally and\u00a0internationally, will become available, as we endeavour to bring our\u00a0sons\u00a0and daughters home, and welcome friends and visitors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
