The Senior Men\u2019s National team will remain in training despite the\u00a0 postponement of the Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.<\/p>\n
That is according to the Grenada Football Association (GFA) Technical Director,\u00a0 Jerry Alexis.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must keep ourselves in training. We are quite aware that the Qualifiers are being suspended until next year. However, we decided we will continue with our\u00a0 training. It is very important to us that we remain focus and do not deviate from\u00a0 our plan,\u201d Alexis stated.<\/p>\n
The preliminary matches which were scheduled to be played during FIFA match\u00a0 window in October and November were called off because of the ongoing\u00a0 COVID-19 global pandemic. Concacaf made the announcement in a recent\u00a0 statement.<\/p>\n
Grenada is drawn in Group A and was set to meet El Salvador on October 8 in\u00a0 an away game, before facing off against US Virgin Island a week later (October\u00a0 13) at the Kirani James Athletes Stadium. In November, they were scheduled to\u00a0 face Antigua and Barbuda away on November 13, rounding off Round one (1) four days later at home against Montserrat on November 17.<\/p>\n
All matches will now be played during FIFA\u2019s match window in March 2021 and\u00a0 the new schedule will be released in due course.<\/p>\n
Aware the team was looking forward to playing football again after all sporting\u00a0 events were suspended in March when the country went on lockdown, GFA\u2019s\u00a0 Technical Director said the safety of the players will always be put first working\u00a0 in this new COVID -19 environment.<\/p>\n
He noted that the Spice Boyz team will continue to work hard to continue with its\u00a0 success coming out of the Concacaf Nations league (CNL) matches.<\/p>\n
