Nye\u00a0 Cruickshank\u00a0 successfully competed\u00a0 in\u00a0 3\u00a0 days of competition at the Para World Swimming Series in Lewisville Texas from April 15 \u2013 17,\u00a0 2021.\u00a0 \u00a0 Prior\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 commencement\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 games\u00a0 she\u00a0 received\u00a0 her\u00a0 official\u00a0 Para\u00a0 Swimming\u00a0 classification\u00a0 of\u00a0 S9\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 Freestyle,\u00a0 Backstroke\u00a0 and\u00a0 Butterfly,\u00a0 SM9\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 Individual Medley and S8 in the Breastroke. Now that Nye holds the official classification of\u00a0 a Para Swimmer it will open opportunities for further competition.<\/p>\n
While\u00a0 this\u00a0 was\u00a0 Nye\u2019s\u00a0 first\u00a0 time\u00a0 competing\u00a0 in\u00a0 a\u00a0 Para\u00a0 Swimming\u00a0 event,\u00a0 it\u00a0 was\u00a0 also an\u00a0 opportunity for her to potentially make the qualifying standard for the Para Olympics later\u00a0 this year in Tokyo.\u00a0 Nye competed in the 100M Breaststroke, 50M Freestyle and 200M IM. \u00a0 While\u00a0 she\u00a0 did\u00a0 not make\u00a0 the\u00a0 qualifying\u00a0 time in\u00a0 either\u00a0 of\u00a0 the listed\u00a0 events,\u00a0 she performed\u00a0 very well and was closest to obtaining the required time for the 100M Breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Grenada is afforded one wild Card for participation in the Para Olympic Games, therefore it\u00a0 is yet to be determined if Nye will still have an opportunity to make her debut at the Para\u00a0 Olympics in August 2021.\u00a0 Nye returns to Grenada on April 21, 2021 and will continue her\u00a0 training\u00a0 in\u00a0 preparation\u00a0 for\u00a0 future\u00a0 competitions\u00a0 and\u00a0 possibly\u00a0 attending\u00a0 the\u00a0 2020\u00a0 Para\u00a0 Olympic Games in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
Coach\u00a0 Nataly\u00a0 Sierra,\u00a0 who\u00a0 trained\u00a0 and\u00a0 accompanied\u00a0 Nye,\u00a0 has\u00a0 played\u00a0 a\u00a0 key\u00a0 role\u00a0 in\u00a0 her\u00a0 development. \u00a0 Nye\u00a0 also\u00a0 worked closely in\u00a0 her\u00a0 training\u00a0 with\u00a0 Coach\u00a0 Ronald\u00a0 Charles.
