Being fully aware of all the plants that are around, including the weeds, he initiated several different farming concepts, utilising a variety of agronomic practices.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Marcelle,\u00a0 whose\u00a0 garden has been\u00a0 in operation for many years, says his background in agriculture is because of his parents. \u201cMy dad was a farmer, and my mom was a midwife and herbalist, that\u2019s where I was first involved. I always wanted to find out the details about plants,\u00a0 what they are, why they are and their purposes.\u00a0 These things fascinated me\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said every day in his garden, feels like a day in the laboratory as \u00a0\u201cI use my garden to experiment and do different things at different times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcelle sees himself as a Climate Smart Agriculturist, interested in biodiversity\u00a0 and management of the ecosystem that practices \u201cG-Tensive\u201d Gardening. \u201c This is the kind of gardening I do; it\u2019s my creation. I\u2019ve invented G-Tensive Gardening, which is a complex mix of a number of things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. G\u2019s Garden is a place for relaxation, restoration, revitalisation , recreation , rejuvenation, and resilience, that\u00a0 also\u00a0 serves as a learning and educational attraction for locals.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Marcelle added\u00a0 his areas of interest. \u201cI am also interested in phytochemicals. I feel that plants could be healing\u00a0 either to the farmer or the visitor as a stress reliever. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>His farm is broken up by the various concepts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Underground Hurricane Storage: Roots and Tubers: Cassava, Yams, Tannia , Topi Tambo and others<\/li>\n<li>We Herbs: herbs and medicinal plants such as the Panadol bush, Kakabacaye\u00a0 and Kojo root<\/li>\n<li>D-Essential Garden: Arrowroot, cover crops , aloes and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The major reason for involving himself in this type of agriculture, is for food\u00a0 and to fuel his desire to educate persons.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0 disclosed, \u201c I would like to have\u00a0\u00a0 young\/ old persons, who are interested in\u00a0 all aspects of agriculture: botany , chemistry\u00a0\u00a0 and spice production. (However, successful applicants must become registered farmers).<\/li>\n<li>Must have or be able to qualify for sufficient finance to fund the project until it becomes self-<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>sustaining or profit generating.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Must have some knowledge of and be willing to practice sustainable farming and environmentally sound practices.<\/li>\n<li>Priority access to land will be given to Full-time Applicants as opposed to Part-time Applicants. (Full- time Applicants means people who are applying to lease land to get into agriculture full-time and who will not take up another job requiring more than 80 hours per month of their time during the period of the lease.
