{"id":9209,"date":"2021-08-12T15:55:39","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/?p=9209"},"modified":"2021-08-12T15:55:39","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T19:55:39","slug":"us-updates-policy-to-support-non-citizen-caribbean-victims-of-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/12\/us-updates-policy-to-support-non-citizen-caribbean-victims-of-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"US Updates Policy To Support Non-Citizen Caribbean Victims Of Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(CMC) \u2014 The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Wednesday its updated policy to support non-citizen victims of crime, including Caribbean nationals.<\/p>\n<p>ICE said it will help victims seek justice and facilitate access to immigration benefits for non-citizens who have been victims of crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new policy is designed to improve victims\u2019 ability to seek justice against perpetrators of crime, including in cases of human trafficking,\u201d the immigration enforcement agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Acting ICE Director Tae Johnson said the policy update \u201cfacilitates victim cooperation with law enforcement, enhances ICE\u2019s criminal investigative efforts, and promotes trust in ICE agents and officers enforcing our laws\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is ICE\u2019s commitment to assist victims of crime regardless of their immigration status,\u201d he said. \u201cThrough this approach, we minimise the fear of repercussions that enforcement decisions may have on the willingness and ability of non-citizen crime victims to contact law enforcement, participate in investigations and prosecutions, pursue justice, and seek benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ICE said this new directive stems from its leadership memorandum, issued July 30, to review agency, directorate, and program office policies, procedures, guidance and resource needs \u201cto ensure that our activities are carried out through a victim-centred approach\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, ICE also recently launched the Victims Engagement and Services Line (VESL), expanding its services to better assist all victims.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>(CMC) \u2014 The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Wednesday its updated policy to support non-citizen victims of crime, including Caribbean nationals.
