{"id":9248,"date":"2021-08-18T11:49:06","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T15:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/?p=9248"},"modified":"2021-08-18T11:49:06","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T15:49:06","slug":"a-brighter-future-for-womens-football-as-gfa-promises-more-competitions-and-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/18\/a-brighter-future-for-womens-football-as-gfa-promises-more-competitions-and-support\/","title":{"rendered":"A Brighter Future For Women\u2019s Football As GFA Promises More Competitions And Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Grenada Football Association (GFA) is looking forward to a bright future for Women\u2019s Football with\u00a0 more support and competitions following the conclusion of the Women\u2019s 7-a-side and U15 Tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Football administrators and coaches are pleased with the talent emerging from the competitions and say\u00a0 pathways will be created for more women to play the game and develop their skills.<\/p>\n<p>In the final of the Women\u2019s League held at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, Boca Juniors dominated\u00a0 their opponents Paradise FCI A winning 7-1, to take home the championship.<\/p>\n<p>Monique George who captured the Golden Boots title scored 4 goals for Boca Juniors (16th, 31st, 47th\u00a0and 48th\u00a0minutes), while her teammates Alisha Charles found the net twice in the 8th\u00a0and 40th\u00a0minutes and\u00a0 Sharis Alexander converted in the 62nd\u00a0minute. Cardisha Rennie was the lone goal scorer for Paradise FCI A in the 27th\u00a0minute. Queen\u2019s Park Rangers captured 3rd\u00a0place after their opponents FC Camerhogne did not\u00a0 show.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the League, GFA President Cheney Joseph said he was happy with the level of talent\u00a0 displayed by the players.<\/p>\n<p>He further stated, \u201cWe need to do a lottery system so that we will have more competitive matches,\u00a0 balance among the teams and more girls will be seen. We are hopeful to go down to U13 and U10 very\u00a0 soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GFA Women\u2019s Development Officer, Harry Varley, said once a proper structure is put in place, then\u00a0 women\u2019s football will blossom in Grenada. He said that in the coming weeks \u201cWe have the U14 nationals\u00a0 going away this month, U20s the following month and senior national team matches in October and\u00a0 November. We have been watching and evaluating their performances and now it\u2019s their chance to\u00a0 represent Grenada internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the support needed for women\u2019s football, GFA Director and Chair of the Women\u2019s\u00a0 Football Committee, Renae Samuel said, \u201cWhen you get players and parents involved earlier, you tap into\u00a0 the interest, and they develop that passion for wanting to play and specialize in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boca Juniors\u2019 Judy McIntosh was awarded the Women\u2019s League Tournament MVP. She expressed her\u00a0 excitement for the future saying, \u201cMy brothers motivated me to play the game and I grew to love it. One\u00a0 day, I hope to make it a career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monique George also of Boca Juniors netted 31 goals during the Women\u2019s League to capture the Golden\u00a0 Boot title.
