St. George\u2019s University (SGU) announced enhanced safety protocols on the True -Blue\u00a0 campus, including pausing all in-person education.\u00a0SGU is committed to safeguarding the\u00a0 health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and the country of Grenada. This decision was\u00a0 made in the spirit of community support and with an abundance of caution\u00a0to help mitigate the\u00a0 spread of COVID-19 in Grenada.<\/p>\n

SGU continues to see a very low number of infections on campus and in the SGU\u00a0 community and will maintain periodic\u00a0screening of all members of the SGU community. In\u00a0 addition, the very few on campus who are COVID positive are experiencing no symptoms or\u00a0 only very mild symptoms as a result of their fully vaccinated status. No SGU connected\u00a0 individuals have been hospitalized.<\/p>\n

The new safety protocol will entail\u00a0a transition to online education for all students in Grenada for\u00a0 the next two weeks. This will include all School of Medicine\u00a0Basic Sciences\u00a0students and\u00a0 students in the Schools of Veterinary Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and Graduate Studies\u00a0 including those in Grenada.<\/p>\n

During this period, any students, faculty and staff on campus will be required to wear masks\u00a0 both indoors and outdoors and group activities will be restricted to open air spaces. Campus\u00a0 operations will be reduced, and all non-essential employees will continue their work duties from\u00a0 home whenever possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe this decision is consistent with the best practice recommendations of leading health\u00a0 organizations and is in the best interest of our campus community\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Richard Liebowitz,\u00a0 Vice Chancellor of St. George\u2019s University. \u201cWhile we are not anticipating a\u00a0 prolonged suspension of in-person classes, students who wish to leave Grenada may return\u00a0 home to continue their studies online. All active employees will continue to receive full pay and\u00a0 benefits\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to work diligently with the government and our international partners\u00a0to\u00a0 mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Grenada\u201d. Dr. Charles Modica, Chancellor of SGU, stated.\u00a0 \u201cOther institutions in Grenada and around the globe have implemented similar measures in\u00a0 recent days that limit the density of large populations to minimize spread of the virus\u201d.<\/p>\n

SGU will re-evaluate the situation after 14 days and further decisions will be based on the\u00a0 circumstances in Grenada.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
