Grenadians are being urged to guard against complacency as the\u00a0 country experiences a decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases.<\/p>\n
Exceeding 5,000 active cases at one point, the country\u2019s total number of active cases is\u00a0 now under 700 and the number of new cases identified daily has been less than 100 for\u00a0 the past few days.<\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/p>\n The positive trend in the statistics and the ongoing need to balance lives and livelihoods\u00a0 has led Government to make some adjustments to the COVID-19 Regulations.<\/p>\n However, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith\u00a0 Mitchell, is encouraging the population not to allow complacency to undermine the gains\u00a0 made.<\/p>\n In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Dr. Mitchell said, \u201cThe reduction in active cases\u00a0 should motivate us to become even more cognizant of the protocols, ensuring that we\u00a0 safeguard ourselves and our loved ones, as we seek a return to some sense of normalcy.\u201d<\/p>\n Acknowledging that the past few weeks could be recorded as one of the darkest periods\u00a0 in the country\u2019s history, Dr. Mitchell expressed confidence in the resilience of Grenadians.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cThe crisis is far from over, but there is certainly a rainbow peeking through the\u00a0 stormy cloud of sickness, death, unemployment, business closures and every other\u00a0 impact this pandemic has wrought on our country. The road to recovery will be long and\u00a0 steep, maybe with some undulating periods where we may seem to regress, but\u00a0 ultimately, sisters and brothers, we will get through this.\u201d<\/p>\n Looking optimistically to the future, the Prime Minister also reiterated the need for\u00a0 collaboration in the fight against COVID-19. He said, \u201cThese unprecedented times require\u00a0 equally extraordinary fortitude. For individuals and organisations alike, it is not a period\u00a0 for the faint of heart, but we have persevered thus far and I must reiterate the need for us\u00a0 to continue working collaboratively, in the interest of our people and our country.
