Prime Minister and Minister for National Security, Dr. the Right\u00a0 Honourable Keith Mitchell, has commended the rank and file of the Royal Grenada Police\u00a0 Force for the tremendous work and sacrifices made during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
Describing it as a critical period in the country\u2019s history, the Prime Minister said everyone\u00a0 must come to terms with the new environment, but acknowledged the extraordinary\u00a0 efforts of some frontline personnel.<\/p>\n
In addition to the extra duties made necessary by the pandemic, COVID-19 has also\u00a0 claimed the lives of two officers. The Prime Minister acknowledged this and again\u00a0 extended his sympathy to the fellow officers and families of the deceased.<\/p>\n
Addressing a cross-section of police officers during a meeting at the Grenada Trade\u00a0 Centre on Wednesday, Dr. Mitchell said, \u201cIn the context of this new environment, I am\u00a0 generally impressed with the efforts of the police force in protecting the country at this\u00a0 crucial time. At the same time, the RGPF has continued its proactive approach to fighting\u00a0 crime, dealing with the issue of illegal drugs, firearms and other related criminal activity. I\u00a0 therefore commend your success in this regard.\u201d<\/p>\n
The National Security Minister made specific mention of the recent bank robbery on the\u00a0 sister island of Carriacou and here again, he commended officers for quick action in not\u00a0 only arresting the perpetrators, but also solving a similar crime from two years ago.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cBank robberies are not usually seen in our country and therefore, it is important\u00a0 to nip that particular crime in the bud. Being able to solve that crime so quickly, will have\u00a0 a tremendous impact, not only on the police force in general, but on the confidence level\u00a0 among our people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commissioner of Police, Edvin Martin, who also addressed Wednesday\u2019s meeting, outlined some of the notable milestones this year including the interception and\u00a0 deportation of 37 illegal immigrants and the seizure of 14 illegal firearms and a quantity\u00a0 of illegal drugs.<\/p>\n
The Police Commissioner thanked the Prime Minister and Minister for National Security\u00a0 for the unwavering support provided to the RGPF over the years, resulting in many\u00a0 significant improvements.<\/p>\n
Highlighting some of these, he identified improved accommodation for Coast Guard\u00a0 officers, new barracks at the Special Services Unit, an exhibit depository also at SSU, a\u00a0 dedicated office for the Digital Forensics Unit, the addition of female quarters at the South\u00a0 St. George Police Station and the addition of 10 new vehicles to the transportation fleet,\u00a0 thus improving the RGPF\u2019s effectiveness in responding to calls for service.<\/p>\n
Commissioner Martin also praised his team of officers for the remarkable work done in\u00a0 preventing and solving crimes and generally protecting the peace and stability of the\u00a0 country. He indicated the as of September 30, 2021, the solving rate for reported crime\u00a0 was at an unprecedented 78%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
