{"id":9691,"date":"2021-11-18T17:57:23","date_gmt":"2021-11-18T21:57:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/?p=9691"},"modified":"2021-11-18T17:57:23","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T21:57:23","slug":"grenada-re-elected-to-executive-board-of-unesco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drealfmgrenada.com\/index.php\/2021\/11\/18\/grenada-re-elected-to-executive-board-of-unesco\/","title":{"rendered":"Grenada Re-Elected To Executive Board Of UNESCO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grenada has been re-elected to serve on the Executive\u00a0 Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO),\u00a0 for the term 2021-2025.<\/p>\n<p>At the 41st\u00a0session of the General Conference of UNESCO, now underway in Paris,\u00a0 France, Grenada secured one of the three seats reserved for CARICOM Countries within\u00a0 the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) on the Executive Board of\u00a0 UNESCO. The two other CARICOM member states elected were Haiti and Saint Lucia.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the Executive Board for the term 2017-2021, and in spite of the\u00a0 challenging circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Grenada, through its\u00a0 Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, actively contributed to advancing the cause of Small\u00a0 Island Developing States (SIDS) and other priorities of UNESCO\u2019s mandate. These\u00a0 priorities include quality and higher education, ocean management and risk prevention,\u00a0 access to science and innovation, building inclusive knowledge societies, the fight against\u00a0 doping in sport, the promotion of the diversity of cultural expression and the preservation\u00a0 of the natural, tangible and intangible cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Grenada has also been an active elected member of several intergovernmental bodies of\u00a0 UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p>The uncertainties of the global situation linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, have made it\u00a0 imperative for an active and effective presence on the UNESCO Executive Board to\u00a0 further develop and build on achievements for the benefit of UNESCO\u2019s priority areas and\u00a0 those of particular significance to Grenada and the wider Caribbean Community.<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the\u00a0 Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information. UNESCO\u2019s programmes contribute\u00a0 to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030,\u00a0 adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
