The exciting conclusion of the Grenada Football Association (GFA) U13 Boys Tournament is set for Sunday 12th\u00a0 December,2021 at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. The teams, representing the parishes will be in action to\u00a0 claim the title in this development competition which will assist the GFA in selecting players for the CONCACAF\u00a0 U15 level.<\/p>\n
The top contenders for the title are St. Patrick\u2019s Crown City Strikers, St. Andrew\u2019s Big Parish Stars and St. Mark\u2019s\u00a0 Western Stars with three (3) wins and one (1) loss a piece following the first four (4) rounds of matches. However,\u00a0 Crown City Strikers lead with a goal difference of +6 while Big Parish Stars and Western Stars each have a goal\u00a0 difference of +5.<\/p>\n
The fourth (4th) round of matches was played on August 14 at the Bellevue Playing Field with wins for Western\u00a0 Stars, Crown City Strikers and St. John\u2019s Dolphins. The final and fifth round was subsequently postponed due to the\u00a0 spike in COVID-19 cases in August 2021. Coaches are reporting that the young footballers were excited to get back\u00a0 to practice and are looking forward to the final round of matches.<\/p>\n
GFA Technical Director Jerry Alexis says overall the tournament has been good. We have identified talent to be\u00a0 nurtured for the U15 level while parish coaches will continue to work with them to develop their skills. He further\u00a0 stated, \u201cIn the new year, we hope to have more sponsors supporting this tournament to provide additional incentives\u00a0 for the young players.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Sunday each team\u2019s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be recognized along with the Tournament MVP, Golden\u00a0 Gloves and Golden Boots. Teams are expected to play 60-minute matches with kick off at 2:00 p.m. Fans are not\u00a0 allowed due to the COVID-19 regulations and permission granted by the Royal Grenada Police Force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
