The Ministry of Agriculture , with support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)\u00a0 and the Marketing and\u00a0 National Importing Board (MNIB), on Wednesday commenced a three-day workshop , edifying pre-selected applicants of Government\u2019s\u00a0 Pilot Agricultural Land Bank Project with important information relating to post-harvest handling and quality requirements for roots and tubers for local markets.<\/p>\n

Critical areas\u00a0 during the three-day knowledge sharing\u00a0 exercise include but are not limited to ,harvesting and storage , post-harvesthandling, packhouse operations , inspection of consignments , value addition\u00a0 and food safety ; all areas that can\u00a0 influence increased production and \u00a0export of root crops such as Sweet Potatoes, Yams,Dasheen and Tannia.<\/p>\n

Chief Agricultural Officer Trevor Thompson, explained to participants the Ministry\u2019s efforts to increase agricultural production.He\u00a0 correlated the increase with quality and handling\u00a0 of produce including that of root crops.<\/p>\n
