With the increase in social activities during the festive season, the Ministry of Health has recorded an expected increase in the number of\u00a0 people testing positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n
The Ministry has identified several factors that can account for this including increases\u00a0 in social gatherings, non-adherence to protocols, and a rise in travel to and from\u00a0 Grenada.<\/p>\n
All countries around the world are experiencing similar conditions and as such, Grenada\u00a0 is not likely to be any different.<\/p>\n
In its continued efforts to safeguard the population, the Ministry of Health has taken all\u00a0 the necessary measures to prevent a repeat of the detrimental effects of the surge\u00a0 which occurred from August to October.<\/p>\n
The measures have included strengthening of surveillance at ports of entry,\u00a0 improvements in the country\u2019s health systems, and continuous access to, and\u00a0 availability of COVID-19 vaccines. In fact, Grenada now has the largest selection and\u00a0 number of available vaccines per capita than ever before.<\/p>\n
The Ministry\u2019s strategy has also included increased testing, and health officials continue\u00a0 to encourage everyone to get tested if he\/she has been exposed to, or is experiencing\u00a0 symptoms of COVID-19. Testing is available on weekdays at all health centers and on\u00a0 weekends at various vaccine\/ testing clinics throughout the island.<\/p>\n
Dr. Myanna Charles, Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health says \u201cWe do not\u00a0 want to revisit our past experiences, but this largely depends on each individual\u2019s\u00a0 behaviour, adhering to protocols that are intended to protect ourselves and by extension\u00a0 our community and our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added \u201cWe also do not want to revisit the days of curfew, lockdowns, and other\u00a0 stringent measures, so we are asking the general public to be mindful of COVID-19\u00a0 during their everyday activities. The end of the year is usually filled with many social\u00a0 events as persons gather to ring in the New Year. We appeal to everyone to act\u00a0\u00a0responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Health has issued a reminder of the recommended protocols:<\/p>\n
\u2219\u00a0Wear a mask properly while in public.<\/p>\n
\u2219\u00a0Avoid unnecessary social gatherings. Please be mindful that events that are held\u00a0 indoors carry a greater risk of transmission of COVID-19<\/p>\n
\u2219\u00a0Maintain social distancing<\/p>\n
\u2219\u00a0Sanitise or wash hands regularly<\/p>\n
\u2219\u00a0Get tested if you are exposed or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19\u00a0\u2219\u00a0Stay at home and quarantine if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19<\/p>\n
Get vaccinated. If you already received your primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine,\u00a0 then get boosted<\/p>\n
