The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Religious\u00a0 Affairs and Information Grenada, is proud to join the celebration of International Day of\u00a0 Education.<\/p>\n
Today, the world is celebrating the fourth International day of Education under the theme \u201cChanging Course, Transforming Education\u201d. The Purpose of this year\u2019s theme is to\u00a0 champion the new course of education, allow access to education for all and help build a\u00a0 sustainable future.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s International day of Education provides a platform for the Ministry of\u00a0 Education, Human Resource Development, Religious Affairs and Information to make\u00a0 visible, the important work it has undertaken and accomplished, in providing quality\u00a0 education since the start of the Pandemic. The Ministry continues to transform teaching\u00a0 and learning while using innovative and transformative technology and techniques. The\u00a0 provision of laptops for every teacher at the pre-primary, primary and secondary level,\u00a0 and e-books\/e-learning devices for every student at the Primary and secondary level is a\u00a0 significant milestone. With the support of our valued stakeholders the retooling of\u00a0 teachers continues as an area of priority. Hundreds of teachers have benefited from their\u00a0 participation in short courses and webinars since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility for all. We must\u00a0 continue to move education to the epicenter of transformation and development. This\u00a0 involves a societal shift to strengthen the public functions of education as a shared\u00a0 endeavour. It calls for a broad movement encompassing governments, civil society,\u00a0 educators, students and youth to mobilize our collective intelligence and reimagine our\u00a0\u00a0futures together, building on acts of innovation, creativity, hope and the will to provide\u00a0 meaningful change.<\/p>\n
The call for a new social contract resonates with the UNESCO Director General\u2019s words\u00a0 on International day of Education; \u201cIn these exceptional times, business as usual is no\u00a0 longer an option. If we are to transform the future, if we are to change course, we must\u00a0 rethink education.<\/p>\n
This means forging a new social contract for education, as called for by the UNESCO\u00a0 report on the \u2018Futures of Education\u2019, released last November. We need to repair past\u00a0 injustices and orient the digital transformation around inclusion and equity. And we need\u00a0 education to fully contribute to sustainable development \u2013 for instance, by integrating\u00a0 environmental education in all curricula and by training teachers in this field.\u201d \u2013 Audrey\u00a0 Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, on the occasion of International Day of Education\u00a0 2021.<\/p>\n
Leading the charge to reform education so that every learner can enjoy greater\u00a0 success, our Minister for Education, the Honourable Emmalin Pierre has already sounded\u00a0 that clarion call. The launch of our Service Excellence Charter on December 10th, 2021 signaled our commitment as a Ministry to lead from the foreground.<\/p>\n
As we celebrate International Day of Education today, let us all recommit to maximizing\u00a0 on the gains that we have made. Let us continue to change the course and transform\u00a0 education.<\/p>\n
