Identification Of Molinierre Land Slippage Area As Sub-National Disaster Zone

St. George– The general public is advised that a team of engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and staff of the National Disaster Management Agency visited the Moliniere land slippage site today as part of the ongoing monitoring of the area.

The area of the slippage has been extended. In that regard, the Moliniere land slippage area was identified for declaration as a sub-national disaster zone. The declaration will be gazetted as per standard protocol in keeping with Section (8) of the National Disaster (Emergency Powers) Act of 1984.

The team was accompanied by the Minister for Disaster Management, Sen. the Hon. Winston Garraway who expressed deep concerns for the level of the hazard and the safety of citizenry.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development also consulted with the Grenada Institute of Professional Engineers and will work in partnership to evaluate the proposals for the rehabilitation of the road and the evaluation of the geotechnical recommendations and designs.

The general public is encouraged to respect and comply with the safety advisory issued and to cease and desist from using the area for vehicular traffic. Pedestrians are cautioned as well.
