The Grenada National Swim Team comes away with three age group winners and a total of eight OECS records from the weekend’s OECS Swimming Competitions held at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre, St. Lucia. The weekend’s event was an exciting one which saw lots of competitive energies from all teams.
Grenada, this year, placed third in the competitions failing to retain the trophy for what would have been the sixth consecutive year this year; however, there were excellent performances from several team members from all age groups. Sara Dowden of the Girls 13-14, Kimberly Ince of the Girls 15-17, and Zackary Gresham of the Boys 15-17 were the age group winners in their respective age groups. Mention must be also made of young new- comer, Glenes Bain of the 8 and under group, who obtained the third overall position in her age group.
Added to these wins, OECS records were broken by Sara Dowden in the Girls 13-14, 100 m Butterfly which she did in a time of 1:05. 07, Anaika Otway in the Girls 15-17, 100m Breaststroke done in a time of 1:14.61, Kimberly Ince in the Girls 15-17, 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:07.73 and Zackary Gresham in:
the Boys 15-17, 100m Butterfly, in a time of 56.17 secs
the 15-17, 100m Backstroke, in a time of 58.36 secs
the Boys 200m IM in a time of 2:09.87 and
the Boys 15-17, 50m Butterfly in a time of 25.50.
Team Grenada also broke the OECS record in the 15 and over Girls 200 Medley Relay which comprised Kimberly Ince, Anaika Otway, Gabrielle Hyson, and Kaiya Ramdhanny. They completed this race in a time of 2:02.15.
There were several great swims and improved times from several other swimmers from the various age groups of the team.
The thirty-nine-member contingent returns home this Wednesday evening.
