Grenada Awards Cash Bonuses And Prizes To Olympic Champions

Grenadian Olympic champions Kirani James, Anderson Peters and Lindon Victor have been showered with special packages for their stellar performances at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The Government and the local business sector showed their gratitude to all the Olympians following an island wide motorcade on Sunday.

During a prize giving function for the Olympic athletes in La Sagesse, St David, Acting Sports minister Delma Thomas announced that according to the National Sports Policy set out, the payment for Olympians is as follows:

  • Gold medal winner- $150,000

  • Silver medal winner- US $125,000

  • Bronze medal winner– US $100,000

  • All finalists – US $50,000

  • All others who qualified for the Olympic Games will receive a token of US $5,000

Acting Minister for Sports, Delma Thomas announced that under the policy, Bronze medallists in the Javelin Throw, Anderson Peters and Decathlete Lindon Victor will each receive US $100,000 from the Government of Grenada.

She said although three-time Olympic medallist in the 400 metres, Kirani James, did not medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, in recognition of the remarkable contribution of James for taking part in four Olympic games and winning Gold, Silver and Bronze, he will also receive US $100,000.

More goodies were also announced by the government for Grenada’s Olympic finalists:

  • 100 per cent concession on any brand-new vehicle purchase valid for four (4) years;

  • 100 per cent concession on building materials for home valid for 10 years;

  • Waiver of all State taxes on the purchases of land or home, first time purchases only;

  • Issuance of diplomatic passport to medallists, the coach (applicable for Grenadian coaches only)

It was also announced that the Olympic coach will receive US $20,000.

The accolades continued to heap up as Anderson Peters who is the brand Ambassador for Republic Bank in Grenada received a cash donation of EC $100,000.

Kirani James who is the brand Ambassador for the Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited was presented with a cash reward of $125,000.

Lindon Victor, who is the brand Ambassador for Huggins was awarded a fully insured Nissan Frontier valued at $170,000.

Governor-General of Grenada, Dame Cecile La Grenade, delivered a message of congratulations from His Majesty King Charles III, which was sent two days after the Paris Olympics.

During an investiture ceremony, Lindon Victor was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire award while Kirani James was presented the Commander of the Order of the British Empire Award.

Sprinter Halle Hazzard along with swimmers Tilly Collymore and Zachary Gresham each received US$5,000 for their efforts in Paris.
